DESCRIPTION
“In a New York Minute” is a project commissioned in the fall of 2021 by Kara Dugan as part of her activity as a member of WQXR’s Artist Propulsion Lab. In this project, five female composers were commissioned to set texts created by New York City poets. The project resulted in a song cycle comprised of five one-minute pieces that aim to promote female voices while endeavoring to represent our collective experience of transitioning out of pandemic life. In addition to “Old” by Juliana Hall, “In a New York Minute” is comprised of “RSVP” by Justine F. Chen, “Emergence” by Emily Cooley, “Softly Broken” by Carrie Magin, and “Can I Hold Your Hand” by Nailah Nombeko.
